Can I double major in CLS?
Yes, students can double major in CLS. Please consult with your major and college advisors to see if your schedule allows you to declare a second major.
Follow these instructions in order to declare a double major.
Is there a language requirement for the CLS major or minor?
There is no language requirement for the major or minor. Students may take up to 10 units of language courses toward the major or minor if they choose.
I took a course from another college/university that has CLS content, can I count it toward my major/minor?
Yes! Courses taken at another institution can be petitioned to count toward your minor. Approval of petitions are up to the discretion of the Program Director.

I took a UCSD course that has CLS content but it is not listed as part of the curriculum. Can I count it toward my major/minor?
Yes! Courses not listed on our course catalog may be petitioned to count toward your minor. Approval of petitions are up to the discretion of the Program Director.

How many courses can I overlap with my major/minor?
You can only overlap a maximum of 2 UD courses (8 units) between your major and CLS minor.
Students may double-major with overlapping UD courses as long as a minimum of 10 UD courses (40 units) are unique to each major.

How many courses can I take from the same department?
You can take a maximum of 3 upper-division courses (12 units) from the same department.
